We are social creatures. We go along with the group, even if we don't believe them. This affects us in all walks of life. In one study from the TV show Brain Games, dozens of normal people were watching a presentation supposedly about the rapid development of modern day technology. But here's the thing. The presenter made no sense. He didn't make a single coherent point. And yet, once the presentation was over, every single person gave a standing ovation.
