Martin Heidegger says that the Christian idea of creation has stifled the ancient experience of nature. St. Thomas, with other medieval thinkers, expressed this in lapidary Latin as opus naturae est opus inteligentia. To say that a work of nature is a work of intelligence is to affirm nature, not to suppress it.
