Is There a Limitation With Strength?

When you train one side but not the other, the other arm can increase in strength. But i'm not sure that that happens when both limbs train. I think the limb actually responds to the local what it's been trained to do. That was within subject, though studies have been done. The criticism on within subject studies is with respect to strength, not necessarily muscle growth.
