The anaerobic hard high intensity interval training efforts teach you mentally to be able to dig really, really deep. And that means in a race, you're going to being able to dig very deep and too deep for recovery. In WKO4, I looked at the average increase or decline of the average power throughout this race. The answer is this athlete is losing 0.9 watts per minute,. For 42 minutes, which means 38 watts average lost over the course of a 40 minute criterion. Ouch. Imagine losing 40 watts off your FTP.
