What Happens When You Do a Warm Up?
Warming up is about getting the body revved up and prepared for whatever it is that we're about to accomplish. What happens physiologically? Well, it's pretty straightforward. We get our core temperature, body temperature, muscle temperature up a little bit. We raise our baseline VO two up. And then it's like, Oh, we've got to cover that gap with some anaerobic glycolysis before the aerobic system gets up. Nine times out of 10, most runners, even in their warm up, run too hard, too fast, too soon.
