Thermidorian Convention and the Directory

The Directory was a continuation of the Thermidorian Convention. It remained just as corrupt, unprincipled, and unscrupulous. Their only true ideology was hostility to anyone who might threaten their uneasy peace. But they did succeed in staying in power for four years.
