Most of the studies that kind o go into this body of research are not designed for strength. The best training protocol for some one to get strong at the end of an eight weeks study might be different than the best training protocol in 8 years or 8 months. I did try to focus any research i'll mention here on those that used free weight, dynamic exercises like a bench press or a squaw. Do more than five cets per week on average is going to be good for strength gains.
