Parenting - Is There a Pathway to Estrangement?

There's a number of different pathways to estrangement. A very common pathway is that the adult child gets married to somebody who's troubled or says, you know, choose me or your parents. And paradoxically or ironically, a certain percentage of adult children cut off contact because they don't know any other way to feel separate from the parent. Many parents have really close confiding relationships with their adult children.
