How Do We Assess Students' Learning Transfer?
How do you achieve this blend of disciplinary and transdisciplinary content? We start by identifying a small number of long term transfer goals. Then we identify the understandings that students will need to be able to transfer their learning within disciplines. A performance task involving application, some transfer and explanation, if done well, will give us evidence that will convict the student of understanding. The ability to remember things on a fact test does not ensure understanding or doesn't show that you can apply your learning. It simply says you know stuff.
