In the 1950s David Strong who is an epidemiologist at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene was tasked with figuring out why they were seeing skyrocketing rates of two particular autoimmune diseases in the UK. He embarked on a 21 year study who is very patient of about 17,000 kids from birth to adulthood and he found two things that formed the basis for the hygiene hypothesis. Kids who lived in large families who were exposed to lots of cousins and siblings coughing and sneezing on them had lower rates of autoimmune disease as adults. Now it doesn't mean that you shouldn't give your kid a bath or encourage them to clean up but you know the take home points here are
