In general, what's your take on machines versus free weights? My first foray into training was through bodybuilding. Bodybuilders use a lot of machines and the ration now is that there's more stability in a machine. I think if you don't have a trainer and you just want to get on machines, that's great too. But I do think that a blend is probably best.
