What a lot of runners are thinking about now though are choices too at things like aid station tables where they have very often there will be boiled potatoes, bananas. So I like your approach of if you are taking in a slower releasing or digesting carbohydrate to monitor that by what you are actually taking in so it does not sit in your gut and contribute to GI distress. It is all a combination of like what you are able to tolerate at the intensity that you are going at and how much carbohydrate that you actually need for that intensity.
