CHAPTER

The Evolution of Antiphospholipid Syndrome

The immune response to bacterial components like lipopolysaccharide is a very, very ancient evolved innate immune response. This is such an ancient process that we actually have germline antibodies for these things, right? They are coded into our DNA and our body is so sure it's going to encounter these patterns of molecules that it's in our DNA to produce these antibodies. Antiphospholipid syndrome is almost like N-stay or severe N-stage mitochondrial dysfunction so much so that it's provoking that autoimmune response. And essentially what we're doing is kicking it up higher than what it should be.
