The miners were pilloried as a bunch of savage bolsheviks in the nation's business friendly press. Hundreds of em were thrown in prison, and several union leaders were tried for treason. The strike in mingo dragged on a little while longer, but eventually had to be called off. It wasn't till the 19 thirties, under f d r's new deal, legislation givig workers the right to organize themselves as a union, that the coal miners of west virginia finally had a permanent voice.
