Every music master at the Russian court was either Naples trained or Italian trained. Paisiello, who was Napoleon's head musician, also played an opera of his over a game in its entirety. Rachmaninoff's teacher, Rensky, published a thousand harmony exercises and melodies to harmonize. Even study of Stravinsky with Rimsky Korsakov had a rather Italian flavor.
