Politeness Systems for Science Fiction - Is There a Face Threat?

There's many possibilities for the audience not in the conversation to still be implicated somehow in the whole politeness system and face threats. You can have these face threats going on between two people talking but how does the person or people around them interact with this as well? You might need to move to yet another strategy or tweak your strategies depending on who's around. Sometimes elves have very complicated and obscure politeness system or whatever you know the elves are in your science fiction universe. Anyone who's anyone who's read the Dune books knows all about the Benadgeserit because they're constantly squeezing every last drop of meaning and implication into every single words head.
