The Thinking Time That You Give Your Pupils

Research shows that teachers wait something like 0.2 seconds to ask a question and then either say okay whoever you know I'll take an answer from somebody or answering the question yourself if no one has put their hand off. We need to massively extend the thinking time that we're giving to our pupils, Brill says. The quality of responses doubles basically when you make sure that every pupil writes an answer down to the question because actually you've had to really think about what they think the answer is.
