Gut microbes play a key role in regulating the gut too. 90% of serotonin is actually produced by the gut microbes which is insane. Low serotonin levels can be linked to things like food cravings, low mood and even depression. The different types of bacteria in our gut can significantly control risk of certain diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
