Mother Jones, a Woman of the American Dream
Her grandfather had been hanged by the british for irish revolutionary activity. Her father took the family to canada and then to the united states during the great potato famine when she was a girl. She helped organize copper miner unions in michigan and street car strikes in new york. No one could match her in bringing america's attention to the horrors of the coal diggers life. In an interview, she was quoted saying, i am simply a social revolutionist. I believe in the collective ownership of the means of wealth.
