How to Use the Interpreter in Family Meetings
Using short sentences is really the key. If you think that person has capacity, I would try and engage them directly in the meeting. We tend to look at the interpreter and then look at the family. But it's knowing actually when we looks at the family that's the engagement. It makes a huge difference. And facing the family is the flow too. You're directing your communication. So more routinely say, after a 10 minute chunk has what I said so far made sense? Or would you even get into repeated back?
