mindfulness is not trying to get thoughts to stop. It's trying to develop what cognitive scientists call meta cognitive awareness, a fancy term for noticing that thoughts are just thoughts. They're not necessarily realities. The more we see them as thoughts, the less we believe in each one of them and they will go away if we keep doing it.
