Self-punishment is a way of trying to control your thoughts and actions. It's called thought action fusion, which means that the sheer fact that they have thoughts means that they are now that person, or there now am. If you're struggling with self-punishment then i want you to really take a pause and examine this behavior. Is it actually moving you forward? Or do you just feel like  working overtime in an effort to prevent something bad from happening?, she asks.
