Many people know that they should do something different, but they have a hard time doing it anyway. It's like you go outside and look up at the stars and you just kind of ask yourself, all right, this is the life I've got in this body. What in the world do I want to make of it? And if I really was here to help myself, have it be pragmatically and morally as good a life as possible,. how would I be toward myself about that? "If you're not for yourself, you won't do anything different," he says.
Dr. Hanson focuses on the importance of self-compassion - and particularly on why it's important to get "on your own side" in order to create lasting, positive change in the brain.
