Is There a Catch-Up for Carbs in the Race?
Ivy: I definitely like to preload. If you come into something as short as a cycle, cross race in such a glycogen, complete state that a gel is going to make a difference, then you're doomed from the start. The fastest I saw was 20 minutes, but typically it was 30 to 45. So basically, you take that gel on the start line and that's your best hope at getting some aid toward the end of the race.
