The Effects of Ice Baths on Muscle Adaptation
After three months of training, both groups significant increased their muscle mass and their strength. But the gains in muscle mass and strength were significantly smaller than the group that did the ice baths. So on the face of it, that data would seem to suggest that using ice baths on a regular basis seems to inhibit adaptations to resistance exercise. There's other evidence out there to suggest that regular cold, warm, emotional, regular ice baths after endurance exercise might have subtly different effects.
