There is an adaptation effect. If you drink coffee all the time every day, your impact on athletic performance will shift a little bit. Recent research shows that that adaptation effect is less than we used to think in terms of performance. abstaining from coffee even for just 24 to 48 hours before a race or performance was enough to kind of get back to maximize the performance enhancing benefit of having coffee.
