How Birds Learn to Understand Other Birds

Birds can understand each other in that kind of basic way. For example, they remember the alarm calls of other bird species. Mockingbirds can mimic all different kinds of sounds like a lawnmower or a chainsaw. There's an Australian species called the superb lyre bird that might be the champion of copycats. Scientists have found that nearly 300 bird species imitate sounds they hear. But there are also some birds who are incredible mimics and sound like other things. Bird songs are actually changing, and humans are part of the reason why.
