The Benefits of Imprinting Antibodies

There's a benefit of imprinting is that, obviously, you're going to be better protected if you see that again. But it does call on the question, you know, mechanisms of how does it actually work? How does it happen that if you have already seen something similar, that when you see it again, you don't generate as good of an antibody response? That happens normally when you have antibodies on board that are protective regardless of whether they are cross-reactive or not cross reactive. The whole idea of having enough antibody around, for example, in mucosal surfaces like IgA in the lung is that when you get exposed, it's going to bind up the virus.
