Photobiomodulation is the term that's been used since about 2015 and prior to that it was known as low-level light therapy or low-level laser therapy but this is a type of therapy that has been present in Europe and Russia since the late 1960s. The mitochondria are very sensitive to both red and infrared light so when the red light penetrates into the mitochondria it will help the mitochondria make energy more efficiently.
