Market Research - How Did You Make the Jump From a Teacher to a Market Researcher?

In order to scale these client projects, it seems like you need to have a healthy knowledge of market research. So how did you make the jump from being a teacher to being a market researcher? I loved teaching. But there was a lot of question in my mind of what else was out there.
