I wonder whether ego defeats desire to manipulate when it comes to this, that people can't get their own egos out of the way. The opportunity to pretend that they don't have a particular opinion on something that they maybe don't actually know anything about is pushed to one side in place of the opportunity to proliferate. Well, think about the media ecosystem as well. If you're, say, a radio producer, you want to get an expert on to talk about COVID or anything else, the economy, whatever it is. But yes, good morning Britain doesn't want that for good reason. That's not what most consumers of information want either.
