Epicurus says that our soul and body are affected along with one another. Sensation requires not just a soul, but a mingling of the two. Even if my soul could survive though, it would be unable to experience pain or anything else. Thus, it is doubly pointless to fear painful experiences after death. But what if we each have an immortal, perhaps immaterial soul?
