When i did my first translation, i had no idea of what thoughts had gone into the process. And very often that led to certain angularities. One of a british critic described my translation of churunges fruity and spicy as not english. It had all these o exotic, equatorial flavors, a ite from a different land. But in retrospect, i wonder if that's necessarily a bad thing either. The real battle is not about fealty and beauty, because there's no conflict between them. No whie.
