Metabotropic Glutamate Receptors

The glutamate receptors are divided into two main classes: ionotropic and metabotropic. There's three classes with eight subtypes spread across those three classes. Their actions are very complex and variable, and they can be excitatory or inhibitory. The ANPA receptors mediate the vast bulk of the excitatory effects of glutamate in the brain.
