Froyd says there are pleasures and pains not strictly attributable to the conscious eye. For freud, you are an organism in an environment you cannot completely control. And it turns out what brings you pain is your constantly trying to control these forces. At our least that thinglike frorid, is thinking about how we make sense of environments. We don't want to make others harm themselves but do we explain why they do?
