The Importance of Focusing on the Process

All athletes reach a point where they can no longer progress. If they're still very, very focused on the outcome, even if it's internally directed, they may just stop lifting once they become a master's athlete. There's nothing wrong with wanting to win perform at a high level and have some element of perfectionism. But it needs to be bolstered by this safety net of enjoying it no matter what - feeling that you have self-worth despite performance.
