You Don't Sacrifice Everything for Love

Our society often puts these as some of our highest ideals so that other things should be sacrificed for them. Whereas other societies saw this as one of many things that were nice and that could have benefits, but to be traded off against other things on a more equal basis. You didn't sacrifice everything for love. And we do sometimes talk in those terms and nod approvingly at movies, et cetera, that celebrate them. It's worth pausing and wondering whether we're right to do that.
