Why Are There 12 Tribes?

The reason that he calls 12 disciples here is because ancient Israel is made up of 12 tribes. He calls to them so he's going to disciple them before he sends them out as apostles. The Assyrians come in the 8th century BC, they capture the northern tribes and they're taken off. They're never heard from again. By Jesus' day, that was ancient history. Right. We are all called to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with allyour mind. That's what it really means.
