I did a talk about this at the recent Svelte Summit. I basically presented like five different models of growth there. Sometimes there isn't optimal size for a thing. The only reason bigger is always better is because of VCs. But sometimes there's a natural size to things and trying to push it beyond its size actually ruins the core technology.
