Buddhism is about taking refuge in the teachings and practices that free us. The Buddha could be an outer refuge in some being that expresses awakened consciousness. But in the deepest inner way, it's taking refuge in this radiant awake presence. So we're going to explore these refuges, and then the ritual will do,. It's a ritual you find in Buddhism, but not Buddhist.
