The Importance of Functional Threshold Power
Triathletes are so focused on functional threshold power or, you know, in sports science terms, we may talk about it being the anaerobic threshold point or maximum lactate steady state. That doesn't really tell us anything, does it? We actually need to improve that to understand what are the metabolic and physiological mechanisms that are going in to produce that FTP number. The first problem is this FTP or threshold thing is highly, highly overused.
