The Gothic Revival of the Opera
There's a votive church that they put up, which I think is the first thing that was built to celebrate the escape of the young emperor from an assassination attempt. It's like a cathedral style, but feels like Gothic revival. Lots of painted, brightly painted interior, like Victorian Gothic. The town hall is clearly pulling on the ideal of sort of low countries, town fathers, guilds,. this kind of late medieval model of beneficent self-governance of the city by the mercantile class.
