Where Did My Nominative Go?

We're going to talk about a lot of cases where sort of the subject is not in nomative. And this can happen in ergative languages too, so it could just as easily be where did my ergative go? It really means where did my prototypical subject go? Right. In English, many, many,Many things are verbs that are conceived of as having the subject as the nominative. Or at least nonoblique. But that is by no means the only way to arrange things.
