The Role of the Social Clock in Our Lives
Biological clocks help organisms anticipate and adapt to cycles in the environment. They predict when events in the natural world are going to happen each day. For example dawn and they set a timetable of events in our bodies to align with changes in the outside world. Thinking about this through an evolutionary lens, if our bodies were trying to do everything all at once all the time then they'll be enormously energetically costly. Having some things always on will be very detrimental too.
