The Evolution of Calories
Weight gain or weight loss is an equation of energy intake, relative to energy expenditure. If you consume excess energy, make a more calories in your body burns, you store those as body fat. There's plenty of evidence that when people eat more whole foods, they eat less calories. More processed foods tend to be higher in dietary fat and refined carbohydrates like sugar. And again, those nutrients are not inherently fatening, it's the fact that they're a lot easier to over-consume.
