Alcohol is a sedative. It doesn't help you fall asleep. So it actually blocks you from REM sleep. The second thing is it really has detrimental effects on the brain. People who were drinking are getting thinning of the gray matter. We saw frontal lobe damage. There was damage in the parietal lobes. This is just due to an average and moderate amount of alcohol.
