The Impact of the First World War on Europe

For most countries around Europe the number of deaths would be between 4 and 5% of the total pre-war populations. A sizeable chunk of an entire generation was destroyed in many countries in Europe. Unfortunately for these generations that would experience both world wars, the suffering caused by the First World War would just be a preview for what happened in the Second.
