Why Pre Frontal Cortex Is So Vulnerable to the Effects of Stress
Biological reasons why pre frontal cortex is so vulnerable to the effects of stress, even mild stress. Stress disrupts functional communication between pre frontal cortex and other brain regions. A few weeks of stress in preparation for a major exam disrupts communication betweenpre frontal cortex in other brain regions - but that comes back after it's over. The amigdala sonds out alarm signals whenever there's any sign of danger in the environment. So when something like that happens, pre frontal cortex sends out a message to the amigdula that it can calm down.
