Psychology has shown that this version of us does exist. The people who are able to access it are by far some of the happiest people in the world. And when people act in ways that go against or violate their true self, often there are emotional consequences. But I think it's also important to acknowledge that there is this kind of longstanding debate about whether we do possess an innate authentic self and long lasting.
