Adaptive Stress and Hormesis
Hormesis is in any adaptive system that has an ability to adapt to certain kinds of stresses. It actually requires stressing that adaptive capacity to maintain it. So if we're exposed to a pathogen, like just kids getting to play in dirt being exposed to microbiome, it's actually a hermetic for us producing antibodies. And so the question is how much stress of what kinds of stress and then how much rest and repair to actually up regulate the system as opposed to the kinds of stress that just damaged the system. The paradigm of athletics in relation to physical activity for health is a good one here.
